Samsung Heavy Industries, the Korean shipyard consider plans to develop an ultra largescale container ship of 14.000 TEU capacity.
Samsung Heavy Industries, experienced a tremendous grouth in shipbuilding and announced that it posted the record high number of newly acquired monthly contracts as it recently won 2.2 billion dollarworth contracts in total from countries including Denmark, Switzerland, Russia, and Greece.
The contracts include: two LNG carriers from the Qatargas U, four electricitypropelled LNG carriers from AP Moller Company, Denmark; four 9,200 TEU container vessels from MSC Company, Switzerland; four tankers from Novoship Company, Russia; another four tankers from a Greek shipping company. This record number of newlywon contracts represents a total of 18 ships in November alone.
With 51 shipbuilding contracts secured in total as of November 2004, SHI has outperformed by 46% its annual goal of USD 3.5 billion sales. The ongoing shipbuilding orders number 138 vessels, worth USD 11.3 billion, which heralds stable operation at production lines for over 30 months to come.
Up to date, SHI has been a leader in the largesized container carriers of 8,000 TEU and beyond while maintaining the 35% market share worldwide. And the recent order for four 9,200 TEU container vessels from Mediterranean Shipping - Switzerland added up to the SHIfs growing reputation. It signifies that customers have come to appreciate the SHIfs continuous efforts to enhance loading capacity of a vessel with the engine power and the speed unchanged.
Industrial experts forecast that by 2010 the volume of goods transported by container ships will constantly grow over 10% every year. Considering the fact that marine shipping companies prefer largesized container ships for their operation efficiency as well as for costsaving effects, it will be a matter of time until over 10,000 TEU container ships prevail.
SHI came up with a timely plan to promote its newly developed 12,000 TEU container carriers, which have already completed performance tests. Base on the accumulated technologies and knowhow, SHI also plans to develop an ultra largescale container ship of a 14,000 TEU unit, which is nicknamed ga dream shiph.Samsung Heavy Industries, experienced a tremendous grouth in shipbuilding and announced that it posted the record high number of newly acquired monthly contracts as it recently won 2.2 billion dollarworth contracts in total from countries including Denmark, Switzerland, Russia, and Greece.
