Lan Airliens Starts Operations to Ushuaia, Argentina.

Starting December 1 2004, LAN Airlines is adding a new destination to its route network by inaugurating operations to the southernmost city of the world, Ushuaia, Argentina. The destination offers a unique landscape combining mountains, sea, glaciers and forests, and is the main port for cruises to the Antarctica, which transport 60,000 international visitors each year, as well as a number of scientific ships.

Starting December 1, 2004, LAN Airlines will operate three flights a week between Santiago, Chile, and Ushuaia, Argentina. The flights will depart Santiago on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays at 8:30 a.m. and arrive in Ushuaia at 2:30 p.m. Return flights will depart Ushuaia on the same days at 3:15 p.m. and arrive in Santiago at 9:20 p.m. The route (Santiago-Puerto Montt-Punta Arenas-Ushuaia) will be operated by the company's modern Airbus A319 aircraft offering the latest technology and entertainment systems.

"Ushuaia is a very attractive destination with excellent hotels and gastronomy, making it an ideal city for tourism, as well as cargo traffic," said Ignacio Cueto (Chief Executive Officer Passenger). "This new service is yet another step in expanding our routes and operations in Argentina, as we continue to provide the highest level of service and safety standards."

LAN Airlines also operates service to the Argentine cities of Buenos Aires, Cordoba, Mendoza, Rosario, Bariloche and Salta (january and february).
