Lufthansa Cargo sets up a third company "Cargo Counts" professionalises airline airfreighting business
A new subsidiary, founded by Lufthansa Cargo, began operating under the name "Cargo Counts". The company offers an all-in airfreight management service to airlines that focus on passenger traffic but wish to professionalise their air cargo business. Known previously under its project name "Yellow Cargo", "cargo counts GmbH" has emerged as an autonomous subsidiary from a specialist department run by Lufthansa Cargo.
"Cargo Counts" assumes responsibility for the entire air cargo business of client airlines with the exception of flight operations and ramp handling. The company name pointedly denotes its purpose: to make cargo count. Its prime objective, after all, is to improve a passenger airline's results from its air cargo business segment. To do that job, the new Lufthansa Cargo subsidiary takes over all freight-relevant processes such as sales, marketing, ground handling, accounting, IT and controlling as well as flight data, yield and capacity management.
Georg Midunsky, Managing Director of cargo counts, explains: "We offer customers many advantages. We free them from cargo overheads and attendant latent costs. Cargo Counts also shoulders the risk of shipment cancellation and capacity utilisation. The airlines receive a contractually agreed share of income from their air cargo business." Additionally, client airlines do not only benefit from "cargo counts" connections, they also have access to Lufthansa Cargo's global route network to 450 destinations in 99 countries. Moreover, they can also utilise Lufthansa Cargo's worldwide distribution channels such as call centers and eBooking.
