Lufthansa Cargo imposes War Risk Surcharge. Same will apply worldwide with effect from 25 March .- Surcharge required to cover additional costs incurred through war.
The conflict in the Middle East has far-reaching consequences for the entire aviation industry and also means substantial additional costs for the international air cargo sector. In view of this, Lufthansa Cargo is imposing a War Risk Surcharge of EUR 0.10 per kilo of actual weight. The surcharge will take effect from 25 March 2003 and will apply worldwide.
This step was necessary because Lufthansa Cargo has been forced to introduce a number of cost-intensive measures in order to maintain its operations. Due to the military action in the Gulf region, the air cargo carrier has been obliged to alter its flight schedules and make complex arrangements to re-route flights. These measures will not only increase fuel consumption, but also the costs for additional staff, essential aircraft maintenance, extra handling services at airports and substitute charter aircraft. In addition, available cargo capacity of aircraft will be reduced due to the necessary re-routings and higher fuel loads.
The War Risk Surcharge is a temporary measure. It will remain in force until the military conflict is over and Lufthansa Cargo can resume normal operations.
