m.v. " CAP SAN LORENZO " - the third of six vessels under construction at Samsung Heavy Industries in Korea for shipping line Hamburg Süd has been named - The ship will enter before the end of the year into the service between US Atlantic ports and South America East Coast
On Monday 18 June 2001, Julia Oetker, the daughter of Rudolf August Oetker, will christen another new building for Hamburg Süd at the Samsung Heavy Industries Yard on Koje Island in Korea.
The vessel is to be named the CAP SAN LORENZO. It is the third of six container ships of identical design on order.
The CAP SAN LORENZO will be placed in service on 4 July 2001 and taken under a time charter of approximately 3 months by the Danish shipping company A. P. Møller on 7 July 2001.
As from October 2001, the vessel will be joining its sister ships, the CAP SAN NICOLAS and CAP SAN MARCO, on the service between the US Atlantic ports and South America East Coast.
The sister ships in a series of six units to be built, has following characteristics:
Total capacity: 50.200 tdw
Container slots: 3.800 TEU ( of which refrigerated containers: 800 TEU )
Length overall: 257,24 m
Width: 32,30 m
Draught: 12,50 m
Engine: Sulzer / 28.760 kW
Speed: 22,5 knots
Gear: two cranes.
