Maersk Logistics today announced the launch of yet another functionality to its Web-based IT system M*PowerT. The new functionality - called Notification - will notify clients of operational changes to their shipments through the entire supply chain.

"Notification" is the latest addition to the Maersk Logistics M*PowerT Suite of IT tools, which are designed to deliver a wide range of information services to customers. Since fast access to timely and accurate information is an important parameter in today's competitive market, Maersk Logistics has invested considerable resources in building IT systems that can provide customers with access to up-to-date information that facilitates supply chain management and improves the decision-making process.

Management by Exception

The launch of Notification also demonstrates Maersk Logistics' commitment to develop the concept of 'Management by Exception' in the field of integrated logistics solutions. By 'Management by Exception', Maersk Logistics means the ability to keep customers informed of last minute changes in schedules and order deliveries. To achieve this goal, Notification provides active exception reporting, for example, the system will send customers notifications when delivery dates for orders are changed - and it will alert customers of changes or updates down to the level of each individual SKU (stock keeping unit) of each order.

Subsequent releases of Notification will go beyond order and container information. Notification of activities in the entire supply chain will be developed as experience is gained from the first release - with advanced options for users to define their own notification rules.

Notification introduces the information push approach to M*PowerT because it will allow users to choose to have notification messages sent to their respective email addresses. Users will also have various options such as having a message sent containing a simple generic notice of change, a link to the relevant part of M*PowerT, or a message containing both a link and the full notification data.
