Samsung Heavy Industries won orders for building six container ships from 7.400TEU (loads 7.400 20-feet containers). Negotiation for 9.000 TEU container vessel in the last phase while planning to complete the design of ULCS (Ultra Large Container Ship) at the 14.000 TEU level by the end of this year


Samsung Heavy Industries - Korea - ( SHI ) has recently won a total of US$2.6 billion in orders including two additional container ships from OOCL Orient Overseas Container Line Ltd. in Hong Kong . The container ship that Samsung is building for OOCL is going to be the world's largest with the scale of 7,400TEU (loads 7,400 20-feet containers). The ships are scheduled to be delivered in 1st half of 2004.

Thus, its achievements in the ultra-large container vessel field total two received orders in the recent first quarter, Since it had pulled in six consecutive orders of same vessel model (480 million dollars) from OOCL this year alone.

Samsung Heavy Industries has announced that, "it has executed a Letter of Intent for Shipbuilding five container ships at 9,000 TEU, which is the world's largest level along with CSG of China in March. And it is in negotiation for a final ship price to launch into a leadership role for the world's large-scale container vessel market, while planning to complete the design of ULCS (Ultra Large Container Ship) at the 14,000 TEU level by the end of this year."
