"WebAccess" - A NAVIS Real-Time Container Information Exchange and Reporting Via the Internet Enables Container Terminal Community to Access Data and Conduct Business Transactions On-Line

The growth of the Internet has changed people's expectations about the ease with which they should be able to obtain information. Today people expect to get the answer to practically any question with a few clicks of a mouse. For customers of port and terminal operators, this means access to more than just periodic updates of vessel or train schedules and basic container inquiry. It means accessing and entering information in real time.

Web Access, a Navis developed Internet-based application provides all parties across the industry's shipping lines, trucking companies, railroads, shippers, consignees, government agencies, in fact, any party in the supply chain with an easy-to-use web browser interface for accessing a wealth of real-time data that was previously inaccessible from outside the terminal facility. Connecting to Navis' terminal management and control products, SPARCS and EXPRESS, WebAccess has many capabilities that can improve terminal's customer service and enable significant cost savings.

Real-time Access to Critical Information

With WebAccess, terminal customers can have secure 24-hour access to real-time container updates and reports utilizing the information residing in facility's information database. So each time containers arrive, cargo moves, trains depart, and so on, this data is instantly available via WebAccess. In addition, demurrage payments can be made on-line via WebAccess either on terminal credit or by credit card secured by VeriSignT, streamlining gate operations.

WebAccess enables customers to easily enter data, including stowplans, line releases, delivery requirements, and more:

- Access a wide range of standard reports. For example, a detailed account of each gate transaction, tracking the truck, container, booking, problems, and so on.
- Create their own custom reports by downloading data with a single click of the mouse to Microsoft Excel or another spreadsheet program.
- Upload and download Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) files. The customer simply specifies the vessel of interest and WebAccess presents a list of available files for that vessel.
- Request automatic notification of more than 200 events, such as the discharge of a container from a vessel or a train, and WebAccess sends a message via e-mail or pager within seconds after it occurs.
- Schedule gate appointments for receivals and deliveries.
- Pay storage on-line by credit card.
- View Vessel Details: View vessel schedules, as well as load and discharge lists.
- View Train Details: View details of all inbound and outbound trains and generate lists of all of their containers.

The Port of Savannah has realized significant improved in operational efficiency, increased cargo moves per day, lowered terminal congestion and lowered transportation costs. WebAccess with EXPRESS successfully minimizes the time from vessel discharge to cargo distribution and delivery to final destination. Throughput at Savannah grew 20% in 2001 and expect to grow 11% in 2002."

WebAccess enables The Port of Savannah to accomplish many business transactions with their terminal customers online, through a standard Web browser, and keep updated as containers arrive, move through and leave the gate.
